Apple iPad: What the Reviewers Think

For nearly a decade, techie critics have been speculating on what Apple CEO’s Steve Jobs foray into a tablet computer would look like. Would he be able to fundamentally change the publishing industry as he has the music industry? Initial reactions range from wildly positive to extremely negative.

Tim Gideon in PCMag says, “What this thing can do is mind-boggling.” He goes on to rave about the device’s screen, its iPhoto functionality, its Google Maps, and its new IBooks feature.

On the opposite extreme, several reviewers cites its lack of a camera, its ungainly touch-screen keyboard, its inability to multitask (think Twitter app not open at the same time as your browser), and not to mention that it is tied to AT&T’s much-maligned data network. However, don’t count Steve Jobs out yet. As of today, “the PC era is dead — and Steve Jobs killed it”, says Nicholas Carr in The New Republic.
