Spookiest Dining in
La Jolla
Barbarella restaurant, a La Jolla Shores fixture for nearly 20 years, is all dressed up for Halloween—and this is a display you won’t want to miss. Known for going all out on holiday decorations, owner Barbara Beltaire transforms the Italian bistro into a spooky scene teeming with mummies, witches, skeletons, and spiderwebs.
But have no fear, if dining in a garden of ghouls gives you the chills, the interior dining areas are less creepy, although watch out for the dropping spiders.
Though the holiday décor is quite a show, it is still the food that takes center stage. Breakfast items include mouthwatering butter brioche French toast, pancakes Limone, carmelized banana oatmeal and a fried organic egg sandwich.
The lunch menu offers daily seasonal specials, an array of crisp salads such as the Barbarella chop and the grilled salmon, sandwiches, brick-fired hand-crafted pizzas, and their signature earth stone roasted whole fish.
At dinnertime, enjoy prime steak with pomme frites, seared salmon with basil beurre blanc, roasted chicken with Dijon jus, and an array of seasonal options. Feel free to bring Fido along to protect you from Halloween spirits as Barbarella offers a mutt menu that includes Hot Diggity Dogs, Rover Easy organic scrambled eggs, Health Hound bite-sized chicken pieces, and even a Cold Nose ice cream dessert.
Barbarella is at 2171 Avenida De La Playa. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
