Following the U.S. invasion of Iraq and the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003, the number of Christians killed in the Middle East nation has been sizeable. According to a recent Wall Street Journal report, at least 905 Christians have been killed in various acts of violence and 54 Iraqi churches have been bombed since 2003.
This consistent violence has influenced thousands of Iraqi Christians to flee the country. In early December a Minority Rights Group International report stated only 500,000 Christians remain in Iraq, down from an estimated 800,000 to 1.4 million in 2003.
