Mohawk chiefs in Canada ask non-natives to leave reserve
Mohawk chiefs reportedly sent letters to non-native residents residing in Kahnawake, a Mohawk reserve southwest of Montreal in Quebec, Canada, asking them to leave, according to the National Post.

Kahnawake law forbids racial intermingling on the reserve. A Department of Indian Affairs spokeswoman told La Press that the evictions are an internal Kahnawake matter.

Some say the move is due to dwindling space and a housing shortage, while others point to a move to preserve Mohawk bloodlines.

Jeremiah Johnson, 31, started a Facebook page called “Non Natives out of Kahnawake?” He supports the policy. “(Outsiders might say,) ‘Oh my God those racist Indians!’ But when you’re here, and you see it from our point of view, … it really is an invasion,” Johnson was reported as saying in the National Post.
