Spanish Youth Protest Bad Economy
Thousands of young people protested at central squares in Madrid and other Spanish cities in late May, demanding jobs and change. The protests began with several hundred demonstrators in Madrid, who were dispersed by police before taking to Facebook and Twitter—where they called for a youth movement. Dubbed “los indignados” (the outraged), the protestors demanded a radical overhaul of Spain’s economy and politics. Currently the unemployment rate among Spaniards under 30 years old is more than 40 percent.
