Last month’s wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton was a boon for those trafficking in wacky memorabilia as the commemorative offerings featuring the royal couple’s likeness ranged from tea cups to lunch bags.
One brewery, however, took the kitsch to another level with the concoction of a beer they call Royal Virility Performance. As an admitted sarcastic response to the absurdity of the merchandise being peddled, BrewDog, a Scottish brewery, created a beer infused with Viagra in hopes of giving “the happy couple something extra on their big day.”
BrewDog has previously gained notoriety for its self-proclaimed “extreme brewing” practices, which include production of the The End of History, the most alcoholic beer on record with an alcoholic content (ABV) of 55%.
Although Royal Virility Performance checks in with a comparably modest 7.5% ABV, it still packs a punch, combining Viagra with other aphrodisiacs, including chocolate and epimedium (commonly known as “horny goat weed”).
Buyers were allowed to purchase only one bottle due to the additional side effects of consumption. BrewDog says if the beer is a success, they will continue production.
